Mamdani, who is considered as a Democratic candidate for the Mayor of the highest Jewish population in the US, has been criticized for his stance against Israel and refused to condemn the phrase, which is considered a wide call for violence against Jews.
He is now being slammed for the statements made by him during the January 2024 panel discussion on Palestinian solidarity, in which he questioned the support of American politicians for the state of Israel.

During the panel, Mammadani referred to the Israeli-supporting movement in the US as a “political mechanism, which is still well funded, quite strong, but rapidly growing more and more different from public emotion.”
He criticized American politicians for supporting the Israeli war against Gaza, saying, “It talks to the fact that … for so many people, Israel is not a place, it is not a country. It is an idea.

“You see that the answers to the questions around Israel in so many politicians … their answers were written 20, 30 years ago. They talk to a reality that does not exist.”
Mamdani also criticized the idea that Israel and Palestine could be present as separate political institutions.

He also said that “there is a fear among the political class in this country of a discourse that is growing which wants to question this conference.”
Dating back during his college days, Mammadani has expressed support for a boycott, partition and restrictions (BDS) against Israel, which affects the watch, “describes as an international campaign to hand over the state of Israel, as Jews are economically isolated as an expression of people.
In another recently revived video of Mamdani since 2021, the mayor candidate highlighted his commitment to BDS.

“I think there is nothing that is not too much to stand against the cruelty of possession and apartheid,” he said. “And so, you know, if it is a shipping container or if it is a university that is being funded, then a university that helped develop IDF weapon technology, or it is an incident with an Israeli ambassador, whatever may happen, I think we have to show what is the solidity.”
