Concern on tents in city park
Fisher Park is a small parcel of green space that sits between buttercrain shopping center, Newuri Canal and Dublin Road.
It is named after the Fisher family, which was synonymous with trade and shipping in the new region.
In recent years, the local sea association has added artwork and information panels highlighting these connections.
Their aim was that they would call a small “green lungs” at the center of a busy city.
But for the last few months, small parklets have seen many tents.
A local businessman told BBC News Ni that he believes that there were three tents in Fisher Park and there were about six people living there.
There have been complaints about the park’s rapidly unnatural nature, raising nonsense and hygiene concerns.
Other local business people have talked about their concern in recent weeks as to how the issue should be addressed.
After the death of Mr. Gavrilov, those tents have been removed and work continues to clean the park.
A small bouquet of candles and flowers can be seen at the entrance of the park.
PSNI Detective Inspector Scene Armstrong said that before being taken to the hospital, Igors Gavarilovs received medical treatment at the scene by emergency services, but later died of injuries.
