Anastasia Paviluchenkova said that when Wimbledon’s electronic line-jolting system failed during his fourth round match against Britain’s Sonay Kartal, a game was ‘stolen’.
When a Kartal Backhand had gone for a long time at 4-4 in the first set, the call was called to stop to play with the “stop, stop” shouting the chair umpire Nico Helwan.
Russian Paviluchenkova saw that the ball was out – and a TV replay revealed that there was a case for some distance.
Addressing the crowd, Helwan said: “We are just going to check whether the system was up and running, because there was no audio call.”
After a telephone call, he stated that the electronic system was “unfortunately unable to track the last point, so we would repeat the point again”.
If the ball was called out, Pavali Chahenkova conquered this point and took an edge.
Instead, it was repeated again, Kartal conquered this point and broke for a 5–4 lead.
