“Who would expect?”
IGA Swiatek was not on the radar of many people to win Wimbledon – including him.
His two -year rule as world number one – last year was terminated by Aryana Sabalenka – was lined with dominance over the soil and stability on the hard court.
The 24 -year -old is known as ‘Queen of Clay’ after winning four French Open titles in five years, while she also won the US Open in 2022.
But she now leaves Wimbledon as champions, thanks to the 6-00 6-0 win in just 57 minutes on Amanda Anisimova in the final of Saturday.
Not only was it the first Wimbledon title of Sweetake, it was its first tour-level title on the grass, which won the girls’ competition in the earlier Sw19.
So this victory, one, thought that she was not able to a surface that does not necessarily seem to be adapted to her game.
“This makes it better to ensure another US because no one expected,” Swetek said.
“It was not a relief. It was just more than good tennis and was working on its shoulders to do so without this stuff.
“This is something that is just real. I think tennis surprises me, and I surprise myself.”
