British number one Emma Redukanu is out of Wimbledon after defeating top seed Aryana Sabalenka in the third round match at the Center Court.
22-year-old Redukanu under extreme pressure under extreme pressure for a three-year Grand Slam Champion-and clear title favorite-7-6 (8-6) 6-4 defeat.
“It’s difficult to take it right now,” said Redukanu.
“It is difficult to harm this way, but at the same time I pushed Aryana, who is a great champion, so I have to be proud.”
Redukanu, ranked 40th in the world, played with clarity and confidence during a panoramic competition.
The 2021 US Open Champion had excluded the opener 6-5 after saving the seven set points in the previous game, or replaced a set point in a tie-break, the lead of the lead would have taken him into a remarkable victory.
