Israel says that Sharif was the “head of Hamas Terrorist Cell”, but he has given very little evidence to support it. Sharif had earlier denied it, and Al Jazeera and media rights groups have rejected the charge.
The BBC understands that Sharif worked for a Hamas media team in Gaza before the current struggle.
In some of his social media posts before his death, the journalist can be heard criticizing Hamas.
Jodi Ginsburg, CEO of the committee to protect journalists, told the BBC that there was no justification for Sharif’s murder.
He said, “International law is very clear at the point that the only person with legitimate goals during the war is an active fighter. Has worked as a media advisor for Hamas, or in fact for Hamas currently, doesn’t make you an active fighter”, he said.
“And nothing that the Israeli army has produced in terms of evidence so far, gives us any kind of assurance that he was also an active member of Hamas.”
There is ‘only voice’ left in Gaza city
Anas Al-Shaf became one of the most prominent reporters of Al Jazeera in Gaza during the war.
The broadcaster said that he was born in the north of the strip in the densely populated Jabia region, he worked for almost two years for Al Jazeera.
Salah, director of Al Jazeera English news, said Negam, “He reported the status of the people for the entire length of the war and committed attacks in Gaza for the entire length of the war inside Gaza.”
A four -year -old daughter, Sham, and a year -old son, married with advice, she separated from them for a longer stretch during the war, while he continued to report from the north of the region after refusing to follow the Israeli withdrawal orders.

Sharif often appeared in live broadcast, reporting on a large scale On the position of Gaza.
He reported to be the target of his colleagues, including Chief Al Jazeera Correspondent Ismail al-Gaul and Cameraman Rami al-ReefiWho was killed in an aerial attack in Gaza city in 2024.
His father was already killed in December 2023 when the family house was targeted in the Israeli strike. A few hours before he was killed himself, he posted about a deep Israeli bombing in Gaza city.
Al Jazira’s managing editor, Mohammad Mavad described him as “the only voice left in Gaza City” – which is now planned to capture military by Israel.
Rayed Fakih, the input manager of Al Jazira’s Arabic language channel, said that BBC Sharif was “courageous, dedicated and honest – that is what he succeeded as a journalist with hundreds of social media followers around the world”.
Fakih, who is in charge of the channel’s bureau and reporters, said: “His dedication took him to areas where no other reporter ventured to go, especially those who saw the worst massacre. Their integrity put him right for his message as a journalist.”
Fakih said that he spoke to Sharif several times over the phone throughout the war.
“In our previous conversation, he told me about the famine and starvation that he was permanent, about how difficult it is to survive with such little food,” he said.
“He realized that he had no choice but to increase the voice of Ghazan. He was living the difficulty he is now living, mourning the famine, mourning the grief.
“Her father was killed in an Israeli bombing. In this way, he was like all the ghazans: to take losses, pain and flexibility. And even in front of death, he was intact, because it is a story that should be told.”
33 -year -old Mohammad Kreha was the father of Gaza City’s two, the Associated Press News Agency said. Like Sharif, he broke away from his family for months during the war as he reported from advance rows in North Gaza, AP said.

Israel alleged that Sharif led the ‘terrorist cell’, with less evidence
The Israeli army accused Sharif of presenting as a journalist, stating that he had “served as the head of a terrorist cell in Hamas” and was responsible for starting rocket attacks in Israeli – but it has given very little evidence to support these claims.
In a statement, the IDF stated that it had documents that include “their” military affiliation “with Hamas” the list of rosters of personnel, list of terrorist training courses, phone directory and salary documents “.
It has publicly released some screenshots of the spreadsheet, which clearly lists Hamas’s operatives from the Northern Gaza Strip, taking into account a portion of a part of a phone directory for injuries to Hamas’s operatives and the Eastern Jabia Battalion of the Armed Group.
Israel had earlier accused Sharif of being a member of Hamas’s military wing – something he and his employer refused strongly.
Reporters without media Freedom Group Vidout Borders (RSF) said that the allegations against them were “baseless” and called for intervention from the international community.
RSF said, “Without strong action from the international community to stop the Israeli army … we are likely to see such additional killings of media professionals.”
According to the RSF, around 200 journalists have been killed in the war launched in response to Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attack.
Al Jazira’s Fakih accused the Israeli army that before killing him, accused of creating stories about journalists, “What to hide” [it] Is committed to Gaza. “Israel has refused to target journalists first.
He described and referred to it as a “long pattern” Giant Palestinian-American journalist Shirin Abu Akla murdered Israel’s armyWho was shot in the head during an Israeli army raid at the West Bank, occupied in 2022.
The Israeli army concluded that one of his soldiers probably killed him, but unknowingly called him to death. Al Jazira said that evidence of this revealed that it was a “intentional murder”.
“Here’s an important fact: Israel was held accountable to Shirin’s assassination, it would not dare to kill 200 journalists in Gaza,” Fakih said.
Sharif knew that he risk being targeted by Israel, when his Arabic -language spokesperson posted a video of him in July and accused him of being a member of Hamas’s military wing.
In a post published on his X account, which was presented in the event of his death, Sharif said that “every effort and all my strength gave a support to my people and my people … don’t forget Gaza.”
