Republican National Committee (RNC) president Michael Whatly made it official on Thursday, as he announced his dialect for the GOP-Ageon Senate seat in Battleground North Carolina.
Whatly’s campaign launches, in its hometown Gastonia, NC, comes in a program, a week later Donald Trump Supported Whatly and urged him to run.
The move of the RNC chair also comes after four days when Democrats launched their top Senate recruitment in the 2026 cycle to date, as the former two-term village Roy Cooper announced his candidature in the race to retire Republican Sen Thom Tilis.
Cooper’s campaign launched the possibility of flipping a major GOP-accepted seat of Democrats as they try to cut a big bite with a 53–47 Senate majority of Republican.

Performance between Whatly and Cooper in Northern Carolina is expected to be one of the most competitive and expensive Senate battles in the country.
Whatly, a native of North Carolina, served as the state’s GOP chair for five years, before Trump served him as a RNC chair in March last year.

Trump called Tilis’s announcement last month that he would not seek a third six -year term in the Senate.
Tilis is a GOP critic of the President, and Trump tortured the Senator last month to not support his so -called “big, beautiful” and tax cut bills.

Following the announcement of Tilis, Trump’s daughter -in -law Lara Trump Tar Heal topped the President’s list for the open seat in the state.
But last week, Lara Trump, a native of Northern Carolina, who worked as RNC co-president last year, announced that “after much thought and hearty discussion with my family, friends and supporters, I have decided not to extend the seat of the United States in Northern Carolina at this time.”
Whatly, who served as the chairman of the North Carolina GOP before being elected as RNC Chair, recently said in the Fox News Digital Interview that Tar Heal’s performance in the state is going to be one of the Marki races in the country. “

“I feel great that we are going to be able to hold that seat,” Whatly predicted. “You know, we have been winning that Senate seat for decades. The President has won that state three consecutive times.”

But Cooper’s beating, who has won statewide six times – four times as Attorney General and twice as a governor – will not be easy.
And Cooper’s campaign said this week that the former governor broke the record of $ 3.4 million in the first 24 hours of his campaign.
Democrats targeted Whatley before their campaign launch.
Rosemary Boaglin, Communications Director of the Democratic National Committee, argued in a statement, “Now, Whatly is going back to Northern Carolina to sell the budget betrayal of Trump, which removed health care from more than 650,000 northern carolines and increased the cost for working families.” The toxic agenda of Trump and Whatly will hang around the Whatly like an albatros. ,
