Someone pushed his company to break the new land, Ilka Pananan is seen comfortably.
Not wearing shoes, like everyone else in the office – it’s a finish thing to me – he tells me that the mobile gaming industry needs to be shaken.
“We need to take big risks,” Mr. Panan, CEO of Finland’s Supersel, says – a huge in the world of mobile games.
“We have to create new types of sports experiences,” they say.
The company has some of the most successful mobile games already released; Clash of Clans and controversy stars were generated last year More than a billion dollars between them.
However, in the last few years, Mr. Pannen has invested “important” in new games, hired more employees and set up new game studios.
“We have many, very talented, ambitious teams, trying to look like a mobile game in 2030, and I want me to answer. I don’t have, but you can definitely expect a variety of game experiences, which you have seen on mobile so far,” they say.
Sri Panan underlines the need for innovation with a statistical; Last year, 60% of the time spent on mobile games was calculated for games that were at least six years old, and only 10% game was on the title developed in the previous year.
And without exciting new games, the industry will struggle for attention.
“Competition for people’s free time is very difficult these days. And not only you are competing against other games, but you are competing against social media, music streaming, video streaming, etc., which are available on your mobile phone,” they say.
One reason that industry is not churning sports, he says, it is expenses. In the early days, mobile games were simple and cheap than games played on console and PCs. but not anymore.
“Building games have become really more expensive,” says Mr. Pannen.
“The main reason is the stage [smartphones] Enables you to do more today than 10 years ago. And the second thing is that the kind of bar in the mind of consumers. ,
Supersel’s own production line has stumbled. Launched last year, Squad had a strong start of Busters, but has since faded.
“The truth is that it has not fulfilled our ambition, at least not yet,” Mr. Pannen.
In February, Supersel appointed a new general manager for the squad Buster.
“The team has actually made bold changes for the game, actually something, and of course, the time will tell,” Mr. Pannen says.
Supersel has taken a different view with another new game, Mo.co.
The Monster Hunting Game was launched in March, but only for those inviting supersel.
Neil Long, founder and editor of Mobilegammer.Bij, says, “It is difficult to measure what they believe with that one … It is still only invited and has not really set the world on fire.”
“Mobile games are quite extreme business, where successes are really large, but failures are really, really big,” they say.
He points to last month’s decision by sports maker Activation Call of duty to draw: Warzone,
“They must have spent years to develop the game, and then they launched, it did not work, and it is dead within a year … that’s why people are not taking risks, because, you know, failures are very visible and expensive.”
He also states that the mobile game industry has changed a lot since Supersel launched his hit game.
There is a lot of competition and some developers are not preferring to launch a large, luxurious, and rather Twisting the moving game.
“Perhaps the era of these mega launch is over,” says Mr. Long.
“Sometimes it is better that you keep your game out of there and then build it like you go and learn what players like and don’t like,” they say.
Supersel gives a lot of freedom to teams that are working on a new game. Currently, there are 10 of them with sports at various stages of development.
One of their guiding principles is to create a game with longevity.
“The question that our team asks itself is: ‘Why will people play this game in five or 10 years?”. ,
“They would prefer to live in the same category of companies, such as, nintendo, for example. It has been over 100 years.”
Mr. Long says that there is a simple principle at the core of success of supersles.
“They take quite complex game ideas and make them really easier and accessible to play, and like cartoni and fun.”
Like many businesses, Mr. Panan hopes that AI will help innovation in innovation. It is being used to create new types of games in Supersel.
“I have seen some internal prototypes, but this is super hurry. I think someone is going to take a few years to make a completely new invention on that front.
“But this is one of the things where it is not a question whether it is going to happen. The question is when it is going to happen and who will be.”
Supersel also has its AI Innovation Lab in Helsinki. This is the opportunity for the company to experiment with supersale’s intellectual property for outsiders, including its sports and characters.
“We originally gave them an independent hand that whatever they want, to spark innovation.
Mr. Panan says that this is a “large -scale success” and another is planned for San Francisco.
“The final result can also be a game, or a game that you and I will think of as a game, but it is a completely different experience that is capable of AI.”
Mr. Long says that AI has been useful in specific areas, such as accelerating the development of sports or analyzing the player’s behavior.
But nothing is revolutionary yet.
“In the context of making a completely new types of games, which we have seen so far. And it does not seem that it is going to happen yet, but we will see.”
