New Delhi: A man inspired by the Bollywood film “Sholay” tried to remind the scene of the iconic water tanker by climbing a mobile tower in a Bhadohi village on Sunday, threatening to jump until his “girlfriend” was brought for marriage. A man, identified as Pawan Pandey, ran a paan shop on the main road of the city. The deadlock between Pandey and the police and the firefighters lasted for about five hours, as the authorities tried to save him safely.Circle officer Ashok Kumar Mishra said, “Pandey runs a paan shop on the main road of the city, and he climbed the tower near Yakubpur at 9 am. From above, he shouted for a woman named Khushboo and insisted that he would be brought to the site or he would jump.”Despite repeated efforts to locate the woman, the police did not find any mark of her. Eventually, he was posted on the phone to a female staff member who successfully persuaded Pandey to get off the tower around 2 pm.Further investigation revealed that Pandey was interacting with someone using a fake Instagram profile for two years. Officials said the person behind the account had used a woman’s picture to gain Pandey’s confidence and allegedly received money from him on the pretext of a romantic relationship.Mishra explained, “Pandey told us that he wants to marry Khushboo and believes that people were trying to keep him separate.” “However, it became a case of online fraud. Someone used a fake ID to apply a woman to a woman and withdraw money from it.”The police have filed a case against Pandey for public disturbances, while online fraud is under investigation.
