West Point Cadet dragged a driver from an accident shortly before the fire broke out in the weekend flames at Orange County, New York.
Larry Picket Junior and his family crashed while driving on the campus on Sunday morning.
He and his father could be seen avoiding power lines because they took the man from the driver’s seat and took him to the road for security.
Picket Junior told CBS New York, “Given that there was someone who needed help, much thinking or nothing. Just knowing that we had to go to help someone, just reacted to him.”
The Fort Montgomery Fire Department stated that the driver hit a utility pole on the route 9W, about six miles from the West Point. The person was called vigilant and only minor injuries.
Picket family praised for “brave works”
Picket Junior, who is from Rale, North Carolina, is a sophomore at the American Military Academy in West Point and plays free security for the football team. His family was in the city for the first game of the season and he was returning from dinner in New York City.
“I am very grateful that we were in the right place at the right time to help the gentleman,” said Picket Junior. “It just goes back to selfless service, desire to serve others. It feels good, but in the end, I am happy that everyone is fine.”
His father, Larry Picket Senior posted a video on social media, stating that his son’s courage performance is a will for the character on which the school is inciting him.
Picket Senior said, “To see my son’s spring in action, there is to run to a car that has a power line and below it, surprising.”
The American military academy echoed that feeling, writing that this picket was “proud to heroic works” taken by Junior and his father.
Athletic director Tom Theodorcice wrote, “Cadet Larry Picket Junior and his father follow the values we love, steps in a moment of crisis to save a life.” “It is proud to look at these symptoms in action, the areas of friendly conflict and outside. Count the brave.”
