Living in America is still a dream that many Indians want to achieve. Many people look at foreign shores for job opportunities and a final transfer.
While things may look rosy on paper, the ground reality is not always the same. The life of an NRI (NRI) can come as a glamorous on social media posts or curate online images, but it hides a deep truth. At least, this is one NRI that claims that it claims to live and work around Indian migrants for years.
Reddit, carrying the person Said There is ‘a lot of glory’ about ‘hardworking Indian immigrants’, but ‘very little honest discussion’ about downsides. According to this person, DownSides related to the first generation migrants in the US have also been discussed less.
Being the first generation immigrant in America
Reddit user, who goes under the name Crazyanatoly, shared that there is a sense of ‘community clinnness’.
They explain it as an event where many are not integrated with society. Instead, immigrants create tight bubbles instead of hiring and socialization with other Indians.
They see outsiders as irrelevant until they are useful, reddit user is shared.
Another rigid side reported that fellow migrants are exploited. According to the original poster, staff in IT firms, shady to reduce ‘referral’ plans, are one of the ways to take advantage of new people.
The poster also talked about pyramid plans and ‘fake friendship’, where one is ‘invited’ for dinner or coffee, and the amway, herbalife and other such products are picked.
Given that they are the first generation immigrants, the original poster also said that corruption is abolished. He said, “Cutting corners, exploiting flaws, bending rules – from fake resumes to visa fraud – is often seen as ‘just smart business’,” he wrote on the redit.
Other issues with the first generation immigrants include sexism and casteism, including the poster “several hold on the backward approach: looking at the lower castes, considering women as a second grade, marrying only within their caste or community.”
There is also a lack of respect for boundaries, resulting in questions of gossip and infiltration, even when it comes to accidental acquaintances.
Finally, NRI spoke of double standards-the first generation immigrants love America’s benefits’ but hope that people will work with them and follow the Indian social hierarchy.
The poster clarified that it was not true for all the first-gene Indians, but said that the patterns were very common to ignore.
Responses to reactions
Many people agreed with what has been written, and also shared their ordinances.
“This is true. I live in SF Bay Area and I am stuck with these narrow -minded PPL. The problem is not only with Indians. It is with every community. Sometimes only PPL who speaks me well, they are the real white PPLs that do not make you your car, home based, whether you have children or which company you work in,” a person commented.
“This is very true. I have experienced the first and pyramid plan one. Can’t believe my husband and I am not only going to face these issues,” another said.
Nevertheless, another said, “The final point is the category of double standards everything is sufficient. Complain on facing racism, but claims about someone’s caste, religious beliefs.”
However, there was a blocker that said that he did not face ‘this’ living in both the US and the European Union.
