Github CEO Thomas Dohmke has released a Stark message to developers around the world: favorable to artificial intelligence, or risk is becoming irrelevant. In a detailed post on X, Dohmke did not see the words. “The evidence is clear: either you embrace AI, or get out of this career,” he said.
According to him, AI is on track to write 90 percent of all codes within the next two to five years. Instead of nervousness, however, Dohmke claims that developers are showing optimism. Many are actively learning how to cooperate with AI tools, refining their early skills, reviewing machine-related codes, and stepping into new roles seeking high-order thinking.
“This is no longer a question of productivity. It is a question of reinforcement,” he said.
Dohmke also believes that this change should begin at the education level. He argued that coding education needs to be developed beyond syntax drill. Instead, students should be trained to question the AI-related answers, seriously thinking and to create a deep understanding of system-level design.
Their comments follow an internal Github study, tracking how 22 developers are currently using AI in their workflows. Conclusions showed that people who adopted technology experienced completely significant changes, not only how they work, but also how they see their career. The developers reported increased ambition, better problem-solution and high job satisfaction.
“They are not writing less codes-they are enabled more complex, system-level work,” said Dohmke.
He insisted that AI is not replacing developers, but changing its roles. Koders are rapidly becoming system designers, critic and AI directors. A developer expressed a light-hearted manner, saying, “My next title could be the creative director of the code.”
