Without naming the Townsend, Latvian Ostapenko wrote on Instagram: “Hi All – I wanted to apologize for some things I said during my second round match.
“English is not my native language, so when I said that education was only speaking about believing in tennis etiquette. But I think the words used may have angered many people beyond the tennis court.
“I appreciate the support because I continue to learn and develop as a person and a tennis player. Goodbye New York and I am eager to come back next year.”
The incident occurred at the end of the match when the two met the players to join hands.
28 -year -old Ostapenko faced townsand, who did not apologize for a net cord, which took place during the first set, then accused the American of being “no education”.
A net-cord winner occurs when a player wins a point as his shot hits the net tape and lands on the edge of his opponent.
This is not a rule to apologize for a net cord, but some players feel humble to do so.
After the confrontation, the on-court microphone told 29-year-old townsand to Ostapenko and said “L Lo” [loss],
Townsand, world number one couple player, then killed the crowd in a frenzy, celebrating with them wildly.
The boon court was around 11 due to the departure of Ostapaneko.
Ostapaneko, who, posted the Townsend on Instagram after the match as “derogatory”, posted on Wednesday to deny allegations of racism.
“I was never racist in my life,” he wrote.
“I respect all the countries of the world, it does not matter to me where you come from.”
The US Open US Open ended on Thursday, when she lost a doubles match with Barbora Crazicova.
