A 22 -year -old IT professional was involved in a new turn in the Pune rape case, police say the alleged attacker was not a stranger, but a woman is known. The news agency PTI reported that according to the investigators, the selfie used as evidence was taken by the woman herself and later edited, while the danger message found on her phone was also typed by her.Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar told reporters on Friday, “They have known each other for a few years and belong to the same community. The selfie was taken by the woman himself, and she also types allegedly threatening messages.” Earlier, the woman claimed that an unidentified man who presented an unknown person as an courier delivery agent entered her flat in Kondwa on Wednesday evening, cut the door, and raped her after spraying a chemical that had to get out of the pass. He later said that the attacker left behind a threatening note and is partially showing his face to a selfie using his mobile phone.However, after taking the suspect into custody – described as a highly qualified professional – Polis stated that the original image clearly showed the entire face of the man, but was later edited. Commissioner Kumar said, “No chemical spray was used. The mental state of the girl is not currently good. The rape part is still investigating.”The woman initially told the police that the man claimed that he was a parcel from a bank, then she asked for a pen. When he put him back, he entered, carried the door, and assaulted him. He claimed that he was passed and is conscious around 8.30 pm, after which he called his relatives, and the police were alerted.The original case registered under the Indian Joint Code Section 64 (Rape), 77 (Vayurism), and 351 (2) (criminal intimidation) triggered a sharp police response. Forensic experts were brought to examine it and collect samples. The CCTV footage of the Housing Society showed no mark of the alleged courier agent, and no visitor entries were logged into the app-based system used by the society.Earlier, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Rajkumar Shinde had said, “We have seen the message of cropped selfie and Sandesh on Survivor’s phone.A woman working with an IT company in Kalyaninagar was living with her younger brother in a rented flat since 2022. His brother was far away on the day of the alleged incident.
