US President Donald Trump said on Monday that he would immediately remove Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook from his post in the board of directors of the Central Bank.
In an announcement made on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump posted a letter addressed to Cook in which he informed about his decision and accused him of creating a “fraud and potential criminal” mortgage agreements.
Neither Cook or Fed has commented on dismissal.
Trump has put rising pressure on the fed – especially its chair Jerome Powell – in recent weeks she looks at the US Central Bank for low interest rates as reluctant. He has repeatedly swims the possibility of firing Powell.
According to Trump’s letter, Cook signed a document, stating that a property in Michigan would have a primary residence for next year.
“Two weeks later, you signed another document for a property in Georgia, stating that it would be your primary residence for the next year,” he said.
“It is under comprehension that you did not know about your first commitment while making the other,” Trump said.
In a statement last week, after the Housing Finance Agency chief accused of hostage fraud, Cook said “had no intention to step down from my post due to some questions raised in a tweet”.
She said that she was “collecting accurate information to answer any valid question and provide facts”.
Cook is the first African American woman to sit on the board, which she has held from 2022.
