US President Donald Trump says that the country with BRICS Alliance policies will be hit with an additional 10% tariff.
Trump posted on his Truth social platform on Sunday, “An additional 10% tariff will be charged from any country that aligns himself with the anti -American policies of BRICS. There will be no exception to this policy.”
After his comments, members of the BRICS criticized his tariff policies and also proposed reforms in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and how the major currencies were given importance.
Trump has long criticized the BRICS – a alliance designed to promote member nations standing on the international stage to challenge the US and Western Europe.
Last year, the list of members of BRICS from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa expanded to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
It is said to be to represent more than half of the world’s population.
Later this week, BRICS leaders, who started a meeting at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, called for improvement in global institutions and deployed an alliance for diplomacy for diplomacy amidst trade struggles and increasing geo -political tension.
