President Donald Trump has signed a $ 221 million agreement with the University of Columbia to resolve the investigation of several federal civilian rights.
The deal includes $ 200 million in three years for alleged discriminatory practices and $ 21 million to settle the claims of antisementary employment discrimination against the Jewish Faculty after Hamas attacks in Israel on October 7, 2023.
The White House called it the largest antisementism-related settlement in American history; Colombia confirmed the dollar volume, but was not characterized by the deal in this way.
The agreement restores billions in federal research funding and inspects through an independent monitor. Colombia has agreed to reform, including increase in campus protest rules and replace the disciplinary authority from faculty to administrators.
Education Secretary Linda McMahon said in a statement to Fox News Digital, “The Trump administration deal with Columbia University is a seismic change in our country’s fight, which is accountable for antisementic discrimination and harassment to accept US taxpayers dollar.” “For decades, the American people have seen scary because our elite complexes have been provoked by Western teachings and a leftist group that restrictions to speech and debate to carry forward the unilateral view of our nation and the world.
“These dangerous trends promoted the outbreak of violent antismitism, crippled after the massacre on 7 October and were first unimaginable in the United States.”

Columbia confirmed that most of its suspended federal grants would be restored, including the National Institute of Health and Department of Health and Human Services. The university said that a portion of funding has not been restored, reflecting unrelated federal cuts in specific research fields.
The agreement also includes the reforms announced by Colombia earlier this year, including changes in campus security, increase in training programs and new reporting mechanisms. This includes the appointment of the title VI and the title VII coordinator, as well as additional commitments made in July, mostly, adopting the definition of antisemitism to the International Holocost Remissing Alliance (IHRA).
Columbia’s public statement does not accept the claims of the White House whether the university will review international students entry or Middle East programs or share admission process data.
The university’s Jewish Student Life Organization, Columbia/Bernard Hilal said that the disposal represents a major step in the right direction.

“In the coming months, Columbia/Barnard Hilal will continue our work with administration, faculty, students and alumni to strengthen Jewish life in Colombia, including to ensure that the roadmap laid in the agreement has been followed.”
Acting Chairman Claire Shipman said that disposal protected academic freedom and allowed necessary research to resume.
Colombia did not do any wrongdoing, but accepted the need for improvement after the “painful, unacceptable events” affecting the Jewish students and faculty.

Columbia’s public statement does not mention several claims made by the White House, including compulsory review of Middle East Programming and new data-sharing requirements related to international student entry.
Shipman said, “The agreement is an important step after a continuous federal investigation and period of institutional uncertainty.” “Settlement was carefully designed to protect the values that define us and allow our necessary research partnership with the federal government to bring back to the track. In critically, it protects our freedom, a serious status for educational excellence and discovery of scholars, a serious status, work that is important for public interest.”
