The Alaska summit between Trump and Putin ended without an agreement on Ukraine, but the two leaders called the talks productive.
A high-done Alaska Summit between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin did not compromise to resolve or stop Moscow’s war in Ukraine, although powerful leaders described the talks as producers before going home.
The meeting attracted global attention – Washington and Moscow to Europe, Ukraine and even New Delhi, as the result can determine whether India faces American tariffs on major imports including Russian oil.
In the last few weeks, Donald Trump hit India with a 50 percent tariff rate – much more than regional peers. Analysts stated that tariff bomb could damage exports and put about 1 percent of the country’s GDP at risk. Washington has already imposed a 25 percent fine on India’s raw purchase from Moscow.

Here are the major takeaairs from the Trump-Putin Alaska Summit:
- ‘There is no deal until there is a deal’ Trump admitted that “we have not gone there” and said that he would reveal the next steps with Ukrainian President Volodimier Zelansky and NATO leaders. Trump said that he and Putin had made some significant progress towards the goal of ending the struggle, but did not give any details on what happened and had to accept that they were unable to bridge sufficient intervals. “I am confident that we had a very productive meeting,” said Trump. “We haven’t got enough, but we have made some headways. So, there is no deal until there is a deal.” In a subsequent conversation with Fox News Channel Scene Hannie, Trump again did not give any details on his discussion with Putin.
- Stop imposing tariffs? After the summit, Trump told Fox News Scene Hanniel that he would prohibit the imposition of tariffs on China to buy Russian oil after progressing with Putin. He did not mention India, another lead buyer of Russian crude, which has been slapped with a total of 50 percent tariff on US imports, including 25 percent fine for imports from Russia. Trump said about the Chinese tariff, “Because of what happened today, I think I don’t have to think about it anymore.” “I may have to think about it in two weeks or three weeks or something, but we don’t have to think about it yet.”
- Putin praised Trump: The Russian President praised his American counterpart for the “friendly” voice of the dialogue – Trump said nothing publicly about the killing of Ukrainian citizens in Moscow attacks – and “to understand that Russia has its own national interests”.
- No detail and no question: Both Tamp and Putin said that the talks were “productive”, but the lack of any declaration of concrete achievements was known. The news conference ended for less than 15 minutes of standard diplomatic comments – and no indication that any concrete results were achieved – and offered very little departure from its previous comments on war in Ukraine.
- Trump opened for trilateral meeting: In the Fox News interview, Trump also suggested that a meeting would now be established between Putin and Ukrainian President Volodimier Zelanski, which may also include. He did not give any information on who is organizing the meeting or when it can happen. Putin did not mention to meet Zelansky while talking to reporters earlier. He said that he had expected Ukraine and his European colleagues to creatively accept the consequences of the US-Russian conversation and “do not try to disrupt the progression of the emerging.” The first meeting between Putin and the US President since the war started, Kiev did not have any immediate response to the summit.
