US President Donald Trump has said that he feels that the conversation in Gaza is “walking together”, as he hosted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at Washington DC.
Trump also expressed confidence that Hamas was ready to end the 21 -month struggle. “They want to meet and they want that ceasefire,” he said in an unexpected comment from reporters at the White House.
The meeting ended in Qatar after the latest round of indirect ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, ending without any success, although the conversation was expected to continue this week.
In Monday’s comment, Trump was asked a journalist as to stop a peace deal in Gaza, and he said: “I don’t think there is a grip. I think things are going on very well.”
The two leaders were asked about the possible plans to move Palestinians, with Trump, saying that they have support from neighboring Israel’s countries.
Meanwhile, Netanyahu said that he was working with the US to find countries that would “give a better future to Palestinians”.
“If people want to live, they can live, but if they want to leave, they should be able to leave,” Netanyahu said.
Palestinian Presidency has rejected the plan to transfer Palestinians first, which suggests that international law will be violated.
Netanyahu also appeared to play the possibilities of the full Palestinian state, saying that Israel would keep security control over the Gaza Strip.
“Now, people will say that this is not a full state, it is not a state. We do not care,” Netanyahu said.
At the meeting, the Israeli PM also said that he nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, allegedly a long -held target of the US President.
Netanyahu said, “He was in one country for peace, one country, one region, one after the other,” Netanyahu said that he had sent the award committee with a letter to Trump.
Trump has earlier stated that he would be “very firm” with the Israeli PM about ending the war and indicated that this week “we will make a deal”.
The White House initially stated that it would not hold an open meeting for the media between the two leaders, the authorities described it as a private dinner, during which the Trump would prioritize the end of the war and the return of all the hostages.
It would be unusual for a President to keep the meeting closed for journalists who prefer to stage their positions with foreign leaders in front of the world presses.
The US-backed ceasefire proposal allegedly releases the bodies of 10 living hostages and 18 dead hostages in five phases during the 60-day truste to Hamas.
Israel will need to release an unknown number of Palestinian prisoners and withdraw from parts of Gaza, where it now controls about two-thirds of the area.
Obstacles are important for a deal.
The main outstanding issue is related to the assistance, as Hamas Gaza emphasizes the termination of the work of the Humanitarian Foundation, while the Israeli delegation refused to discuss the issue, saying that they are not authorized to discuss it.
During his visit, Netanyahu met Steve Vitkoff, an envoy of the Middle East of US State Secretary Marco Rubio and Trump.
As Netanyahu’s armored Limosine traveled to the White House, gathered at the security gate, waving Palestinian flags and shouting calls for Israeli’s arrest.
Along with Netanyahu, his former Defense Minister Yo Gallant and an Hamas Commander Mohammad Def, in November, the subject of an arrest warrant for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity was made from the International Crime Court (ICC).
Netanyahu has rejected the allegations, calling the warrant as uncomfortable, while the Trump administration has banned four ICC judges, called the “America or our close aide, Israel” target “baseless action”.
The latest round of war talks in Gaza began in Doha on Sunday, in which the representatives were sitting in different rooms in the same building.
A second session was held on Monday and ended without any success, a Palestinian official told AFP familiar with the talks.
Vicchoff was at an attempt to achieve a ceasefire on the line as the Gaza struggle is near 22 months due to his involvement in the talks in Doha later this week.
Speaking to the BBC, the US Ambassador of Israel Mike Hukabi refused to say whether Trump would give a written guarantee that the proposed 60-day ceasefire would be extended, so until the negotiation continues.
“I just don’t know,” said Hukabi.
It is one of the major demands of Hamas and is a stumbling in current dialogues.
Asked if he believes that Trump can achieve a success with the Israeli leader, Hukabi said: “I am not a prophet. I cannot predict the future, so I will not try to tell you what will happen.”
Netanyahu is visiting the White House for the third time as Trump returned to power about six months ago.
But the leaders are meeting for the first time as the US joined the Israeli attacks at the Iranian nuclear sites and then there was a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.
There is a strong understanding that recently the 12-day war has created more favorable conditions to end the Gaza war.
Witcoff said in Monday’s dinner that an American meeting with Iran will be held in next week. Trump also said that he would like to lift sanctions on the Republic of Islamic at some time.
The US President has expressed increasing concern over the struggle in Gaza in recent weeks and believes that there is a “good chance” to reach a ceasefire.
White House spokesman Karolin Levitt said that Trump had a “extreme priority” to end the war in Gaza and wanted Hamas to agree to the 60-day deal “now.
