The Trump administration is allegedly stopping Taiwan’s President from stopping in New York City for a diplomatic meeting in Central America, after alleged China pressure.
Financial time reported On Monday that the administration has denied the Taiwan President Lai Ching-T, which is an opportunity to stay in New York City during a planned journey of Paraguay, Guatemala and Belize-all countries that recognize Taiwan as their independent country.
However, on Monday, the President’s office in Taiwan issued a statement that indicated that Lai “currently had no plans to go on a foreign trip,” according to the Taiwan-state media. A source familiar with the matter in the State Department confirmed that no formal travel plan has been announced for President Lai.
