With a few weeks to go before the start of the new school year, UAE has introduced a significant change that schools across the country have planned their academic program. A newly approved integrated integrated calendar for 2025–2026 academic year will be effective for all public and private schools across the country. This step approved by the Council of Education, Human Development and Community Development is an important step in aligning educational years across the country to give better support to students, families and comprehensive community.
A calendar designed for balance and unity
The new educational calendar introduces the school year, term brakes and fixed, integrated dates for every school of UAE, term brakes and holidays. This standardization is not only about convenience; This reflects a comprehensive vision aligning with the ‘year of the community’ initiative of the country. By coordinating the school schedule, MOE aims to create an environment where students can flourish academically, while enjoying quality time with their families and participate in community life. Education Minister Sara Al Amiri emphasized that this change represents “qualitative changes” in the management of the school year. He said that the calendar now acts as a strategic national tool, increases educational quality and promotes social harmony. Additionally, by aligning school holidays with community, cultural and tourism activities, the calendar helps to create a strong relationship between education and society on a large scale.
Major dates and brakes for academic year 2025-2026
The academic year officially starts from August 25, 2025. The calendar is structured around three words, each to ensure that students are spread with a break over time to relax and attach to national events:
- First term: 25 August to 7 December, 2025
After a four -week winter break from December 8, 2025 to January 4, 2026. Schools reopen again on 5 January 2026. This extended brake offers an opportunity to students to recharge after intensive period and participate in community activities. - Second term: 5 January to 15 March, 2026
After a spring break from 16 March to 29 March 2026. Schools resumed on March 30, 2026, with the exception of private schools in Sharjah, which returns first on 23 March, 2026. - Third term: March 30 to July 3, 2026
In Sharjah, the term ends on July 2, 2026, a day before.
This schedule is designed to balance educational hardness with student welfare, providing structured time for comfort and family engagement throughout the year.
Introduction to mid -term brake to reduce educational pressure
A remarkable addition to the calendar is the beginning of mid -term brakes for both public and private schools after the government course. These small brakes are strategically kept to help students manage academic pressure and maintain mental and physical welfare:
- First mid-term break: 13 to 19 October, 2025
- Second mid-term brake: February 11 to 15, 2026
- Third Mid-Term Break: May 25 to 31, 2026 (Align with Eid al Adha Holiday)
These mid-term poses encourage students to spend quality time with their families and support the overall objective of a balanced and healthy educational experience. For private schools that do not follow government courses, MOE has allowed mid-term brake schedule within October and February. Each brake should not exceed five consecutive days and cannot be moved beyond these months. This ensures that schools can meet operating requirements when combined with the national calendar.
Ensure stability and compliance
To maintain the integrity of the academic year, MOE said that all schools follow strictly approved calendars. This involves the final assessment and meeting the requirements of the course during the last week of each word, making sure the students remain until the last day of the school. The only exception applies to grades included in pre-influential international examinations. In addition, private schools that follow government courses should align with the centralized test calendar used by public schools, which strengthens a harmonious national approach to education standards.
