Partial human remains were discovered at the sixth site dug by the Special Examination Team (SIT), which was investigating a large -scale burial case in Dharmasthala, a city in Darshina Kannada district of Karnataka. The residue may be the first concrete evidence in the large -scale burial case.
The SIT has dug five sites at the places identified by the complainant in the case. However, this was the first to provide success in the case.
What is the Dharmasthala Mass buried case?
The case was generated from an FIR filed by a former sanitation worker, complainant in the case on 4 July. In his complaint, he alleged that he was forced to bury several bodies for working in Dharmasthala between 1995 and 2014. The village is located in Beltangdi taluk in Dakshana Kannada district.
The complaint stated that many of the deceased who were buried were allegedly victims of sexual violence and murder. The complainant claimed that his relative was attacked, thus fled to the city.
The SIT investigated the local police on 25 July, and launched the excavation of the sites identified by the former sanitation worker. The team is also focusing on verifying the story of the complainant.
“There are discrepancies in their version of events. Before proceeding, we need to establish a consistent timeline and verify the facts.”
Advocate N Manjanath, who represented Sujata Bhat, the mother of a missing medical student, said that the SIT had progressed in the case, in which items like PAN card and two ATM cards were recovered.
The advocate said that the complainant had also identified another important site, allegedly buried in the largest number of burials. However, the site will be dug at the latter stage, with the SIT currently targeting 13 spots.
The SIT has opted to videograph the entire sermon process as part of official documentation.
