New Delhi: A 15 -year -old girl from Puri district of Odisha, who was burning more than 75% in an alleged attack in Balanga on June 19, succumbed to her injuries in AIIMS Delhi after in -depth care on Saturday. The teenager, who was initially treated in AIIMS Bhubaneswar, was airlifted to Delhi and admitted to the Burn ICU of Burns and Plastic Surgery Block, where she was important on oxygen support. AIIMS Delhi confirmed that it was under continuous monitoring by a team of experts, but could not be revived. Sharing the news on X, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said, “Despite all the efforts of the government and the round-the-clock efforts of the expert medical team in AIIMS Delhi, their lives could not be saved. I pray for the eternal peace of the girl’s soul and strength for her family. ,
The girl initially alleged that she was attacked by three unidentified bike-related men who put kerosene on her and set her on fire. However, police officials said there was no evidence to support his claim. In his subsequent statement before a judicial magistrate, he allegedly admitted to self-forgotten. The incident occurred when the girl was on the way to a relative’s house and was allegedly kidnapped and taken to a secluded place near the Bhargabi River. Local people rescued him and alerted the authorities. The police is still investigating the case, and the Odisha government had earlier announced that it would cover its medical expenses. The case attracted wide attention and came to Balasore immediately after another high-profile suicide case, where a 20-year-old student ended his life by alleging sexual harassment by a professor.
