A van rolled a hill and crashed through the barrier across a railway level, when a pet dog was chewed through a handbrake cable according to its owner.
The work vehicle led below the road before smashing through gates next to the Narasboro station and killing a Victorian signal box, causing major disruption to services between Harogate and York.
Talking to the BBC, the van driver, who did not want to take the name, said he had come out of the van and left his French Bulldog, Regi inside when he saw it away from Kirkgate.
He said: “I am only grateful that no one was injured and also that Regi was not hurt.”
The accident, which took place shortly before the BST 06:30, was closed during the morning crowds.
Since then the vehicle has been removed from the tracks and the North Yorkshire police said no one was injured in the incident.
A witness explained how the van “only in an inch case” left her home.
“Till that point it was built at such a speed that when it collides with the barrier gate on the railway track, it was corrected through the gate, sent the gate to the railway track flying on the track.
“The van eventually came to a stop as it collapsed in the signal box.”
Rashtriya Rail said that as a result of earlier incident, a low service will last up to 14:00 BST.
The British Transport Police said that interrogation was going on under the leading circumstances for the confrontation and asked the witnesses to come in contact.
The damaged signal box made in 1872 is listed and there is only a small number on the British network that is connected to a terraced house instead of freestanding.
Crossing next to it is mainly used by pedestrians.
