New Delhi: The Congress party on Sunday condemned the arrest of two Catholic nuns from Kerala in Chhattisgarh in rival BJP.Congress leader KC Venugopal alleged that “attacks on minorities have seen huge growth under BJP ruled states”.“Attacks on minorities have seen a large -scale growth under the BJP ruled states, whether it is Chhattisgarh, Odisha or MP. Durg, the latest attacks of Bajrang Dal goons on two Catholic nuns in Chhattisgarh, indicate a silent support for such disgusting crimes by the ruling establishment.”He pointed to the alleged “oppression of minorities” under the BJP government and accused the right -wing groups of orchestrating the incident.Venugopal said that he had urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai demanding strict action against criminals and to protect the constitutional rights and religious freedom in the state.According to media reports, the two nuns were recently detained after allegations of human trafficking at a railway station in Durg district of Chhattisgarh and forced to religious conversion, PTI said.Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Legislative Assembly VD Satheson also raised concerns, called the arrest a troubled example of religious harassment.“In the BJP -ruled Chhattisgarh, two Malayali Nuns faced mob tests, police harassment and false allegations”, Satheson posted on X.He demanded the immediate release of the nun, saying that “harassment in the name of religion or caste is unacceptable.”
