Officials said a boat explosion on the popular Lake Lanier in Georgia on Friday evening injured at least five people.
Hall County Fire Rescue said in a news release that the fire crew responded to reports of a boat explosion to find a boat with a 5-foot high flames and injured five people at the scene.
Cell phone video showed black smoke and heavy flames from the boat to the boat, as sailors of many other ships were seen.
The fire department stated that four patients were taken to area hospitals by ambulances, and airlifted to the fifth, stating that all the patients were in a stable position as they were taken from the scene. Their exact conditions were not confirmed.
The Hall County Fire Rescue said the fire was extinguished using a portable water pump with the help of Gainsville Fire Department Rescue Boat. Since then it has been taken to the shore.
The fire department said that the cause of the fire was under investigation. The circumstances reaching the explosion were still not clear.
Lake Lanier is located about 50 miles north -east from Atlanta. It is the largest lake in Georgia with a coastline of about 700 miles, and is one of the busiest lakes in the southeast.
In the fourth weekend of July, local law enforcement told CBS News that they were patrolling the lake, especially monitoring for impaired boating.
