Praveen Yadav (Ward 12) was elected as a senior deputy mayor of Manesar, and Reema Deepak Chauhan (Ward 2) became unopposed on Tuesday as deputy mayor. Both are considered close to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former minister Rao Narbir Singh.
Mayor Indrajit Kaur and eight councilors admitted that they were supporters, boycotted the voting process. His absence meant that no other nomination was filed, which paves the way for an unopposed victory for the BJP -backed candidates.
Kaur won the top municipal corporation of Manesar Post as an independent candidate. He was initially seen as part of a combined block of citizens which was washed away by civil elections. The BJP formed an alliance with seven independents after the elections, bowing to the balance of power in its favor.
A BJP leader said that on Tuesday, the result showed confidence councilors in a committed leadership for development, even the absence of Kaur and her colleagues raised questions about the growing factionalism within the elected House.
Yadav is known as a grassroots leader, and Chauhan is a growing local politician. His election is expected to promote administrative coordination and expedite the development work under the influence of the BJP in the civil body.
The BJP -backed leadership now controls major positions in the corporation, in a strong position to run governance and policy decisions.
On Tuesday, the absence of Kaur and her supporters expressed concern among the residents who are now politically afraid that they can affect development work in the rapidly growing sector. The activists called for unity among the elected representatives, urged them to prioritize public service on political loyalty.
On Tuesday, the turn of events showed Rao Narbir Singh’s intense influence in Manesar politics, even after being out of the state cabinet. Their loyalists now have the right to take important decisions in the corporation.
