At least 10 forestry and rescue workers have died in Türkiye’s central Eskisir province, battling wildfire.
Turkish Agriculture and Forestry Minister Ibrahim Yumakali said in a post on X, some 24 forest workers and volunteers rescue personnel were “trapped inside the fire”.
He said that five forestry workers and five volunteers of the inconsideration rescue organization lost their lives and 14 forest workers were taken to the hospital.
Local media said that the explosion in Seetgazi district of the province started on Tuesday morning and started spreading towards nearby areas.
Turkish President Rape Taip Erdogan shared his condolences on X. “I pray on my brothers and sisters for the mercy of God, who fought a fight at the cost of their lives to protect our forests, and I give my condolences to their families and our nation,” he said.
Meanwhile, the constituency MP Nebi Hatipoglu said that the community was “experienced by the martyr” on the loss of the brave forest workers “.
Temperature across the country has crossed 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit) in recent times and the fire is currently burning in five areas – Sakariya, Billiceic, Escishir, ̇Zmir, Karbuk and Manisa.
In this summer, hundreds of wildfires are broken in Türkiye, forcing tens of thousand people to vacate their homes.
