The Temes Water has announced a hosspipe ban affecting 1.1 million people in several postcode areas.
The water firm said that the measure would come in place in Swindon, Glostershair, Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Wiltshire on July 22 on 22 July due to rain and increasing demand, which increased the supply.
It bans the use of a hospy for activities such as watering the garden, washing the car or filling the paddling pool. People using a hospy during the ban can be fined up to £ 1,000.
It comes when the environment agency said that it had declared a long dry weather conditions in the Oxfordshire, Berkshire and large parts of Surrey.
Temes Water said the temporary restrictions would cover areas with postcode starting with Ox, GL, SN, RG4, RG8 and RG9.
The restriction does not affect businesses where the use of hospypes is part of their purpose – for example, the garden center and car washes – but the company said that everyone in the region should be “brain” of water use.
Temes Water said that long -term hot weather meant that a high demand was also available with less water, when the temperature was above 25C, customers used 30% more water.
In Temes Water, the Strategic Water Resources Director Neville Mutsus said that he “did not expect that the situation would soon improve at any time”.
“We have to take action now,” he said.
“It has been a challenging spring and heat with large spikes in the demand of customers during hot dried days and very little rainfall to recreate the local supply in the Temes Valley.”
They encouraged both within and outside the restriction area to reduce the use of water, brushing teeth, taking small rainfall and offering taps while not giving water to their lawn.
