Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday directed the Education Department to ensure that government school teachers should be deployed in their favorite blocks or surrounding areas, and they should also be allowed to select three districts for inter-district transfer.
This action was taken for teacher posting amid increasing dissatisfaction among teachers across Bihar and transferred on the basis of personal preferences. The absence of subject teachers in many schools has allegedly disrupted children’s education.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister said, “The posting of teachers within the districts will be done by a committee of district officials so that as far as possible, teachers are deployed in their desired blocks or nearby areas.”
Kumar also addressed concerns about inter-district transfer, assuring the teachers that their preferences would be considered during the posting process.
“Suggestions are being received from various sources about the recent teacher transfer made by the Education Department. In the process of reviewing it, I have given clear instructions to the Education Department that for teachers facing issues related to inter-district transfer, options for three districts will be obtained from them, after which their postings will be made only in those districts,” he wrote.
Bihar CM urges teachers to focus on children’s education
Reiterating the importance of teachers in shaping the future of the state, Kumar appealed to them to focus on their responsibilities without worrying about the transfer process.
He said, “Teachers are very important for the future of children, and therefore, I politely request that they work hard without worrying about the matter for children’s education in Bihar.”
In response to rising concerns, the Education Department has recently introduced an online self-transfer system. It aims to reduce the dissatisfaction among teachers about posting and improve proficiency in addressing vacancies in schools.
Earlier on Monday, he had directed the Education Department to amend the recruitment rules for giving preference to local residents in government school teacher appointments. The new policy will be effective from the Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE-4) prescribed for 2025.
The purpose of this step is to ensure that the residents of Bihar have increased access to teaching jobs in government schools. This will apply to all future recruitment processes starting with TRE-4 and extend to TRE-5, which is slapped to 2026.
