The Syrian Presidency says it will deploy a new force to prevent deadly communal clashes between Bedouin and Drew Fighters in the south of the country.
The office of the Syrian interim president Ahmed al-Shra on Friday urged “all sides to practice restraint” amidst a fresh fighting reports near Suveda city.
About 600 people are reported to have been killed Since violence erupted on Sunday. Government soldiers deployed in the area were accused by residents of killing drew citizens and executing extraordinary execution.
Israel later hit the goals in Syria to force the soldiers to withdraw from Suveda province. On Friday, Turkish US ambassador stated that Israel and Syria agreed to a ceasefire.
In a post on X, Ambassador Tom Barrack stated that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Shara “have agreed to a ceasefire by Syrian’s neighbors Turkey and Jordan.
The messenger said, “We ask Drews, Bedouins and Sunnis to keep their weapons down and create a new and united Syrian identity in peace and prosperity with our neighbors with other minorities.”
Israel and Syria have not commented on the publicly reported ceasefire agreement.
Shrak’s office, shortly before announcing its planned military deployment to the south, an Israeli official said that Israel agreed to protect the limited entry of Syrian internal security forces personnel for 48 hours in Suvida, “Drews in the light of ongoing instability”.
Suveda’s primarily the Drews community follows a secret, unique belief from Shia Islam, and mistrusts the current jihadi-elevated government in Damascus. They are a minority in Syria, as well as neighbor Lebanon and also in Israel.
Reporting from Syria, BBC’s Middle East correspondent Leena Sinjab said that violence towards drains is spreading across the country.
Earlier this week, United Nations Human Rights Head Volcker Turk said that his office received a reliable report, indicating widespread violations and abuses during clashes, including summary execution and arbitrary killings in Suvida.
Among the alleged criminals were members of security forces and individuals affiliated to the interim government, as well as local druz and badoine armed elements, Turk said in a statement.
“It should stop bloodshed and violence,” he warned, “Those responsible people should be held in the account”.
The BBC has approached the Syrian government and security forces about the allegations of summary murders and other violations.
At a television address in early Thursday, Shara vowed to justify criminals and promise to protect the “priority” to the drew.
He said, “We are eager to justify those who moved and abused our drews because they are subject to the security and responsibility of the state,” he said.
He said that his leaders said “the dialogue dismissed for several months”.
