According to the rebel group Sudan Liberation Movement/Army, a landslide in the remote Marra mountain in western Sudan killed at least 1,000 people.
The group said in a statement that the heavy rains trigge the landslide on Sunday, which left just a survivor and made a lot of “flat” from Tarsin village, the group said in a statement.
The movement has appealed to the United Nations and other regional and international organizations for humanitarian assistance.
Several residents of the North Darfur state sought refuge in the Marra mountain region, forced from their homes after the war between Sudani Army and Paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Darfur’s army-federal governor, Minnie Minnavi called the landslide a “human tragedy”.
In April 2023, the Civil War between the Sudani Army and the RSF drowned the country in a famine and accused of massacre in the Western Darfur region.
The estimates for death tolls from civil war are quite different, but last year an American official estimated that 150,000 people were killed since the hostility started in 2023. About 12 million have fled their homes.
Sudan Mukti Movement/Army faction, which controls the area where landslides occurred, have resolved to fight against the RSF with the Sudani army.
Many Darfuris believe that the RSF and allid militia have waged a war with the aim of converting the ethnically mixed sector into a billion ruled domain.
