An SNP majority in Holiroad is the only way to ensure a second freedom referendum, the first minister has said.
John Swine said that acquiring independence would be at the center of its party’s campaign for the 2026 election.
There are currently 60 SNP MSPs in Holiroad. The majority will need to win 65 seats out of 129 seats in Parliament.
During his visit to Scotland, Swine spoke to BBC Scotland News before a meeting with US President Donald Trump.
“We got priority to gain independence,” the first minister said.
“We do this that by choosing the majority of SNP MSP in the Scottish Parliament and then carried forward the democratic route for freedom that will secure the future of our country.”
Swine stated that a second referendum would allow SNP to “do Scotland’s energy funds for Scotland and” fair and justified “changes in the welfare system.
He said: “This happens only when we have that referendum and we only receive that referendum if most SNP MSPs are selected in next May.
‘Out of thoughts’
The SNP won a majority in the 2011 Scottish Parliament elections, which paved the way for the 2014 freedom referendum.
Swine said that in 2026 the majority would put a similar pressure on the UK government.
He said: “No one is the Prime Minister of the UK who can sit around and essentially deny the democratic desires of the people of Scotland.”
The Prime Minister is also in Scotland to meet with Sir Kir Stmper Donald Trump.
Both swine and stormers are expected to participate in a private dinner with the President.
Meanwhile, former SNP Health Secretary Alex Neil has been important for Swine’s freedom plan.
He told BBC Scotland News that SNP was not as popular as it was in 2011 and “lost its reputation for a good government”.
He said the strategy was “more about trying to save SNP’s bacon” than the victory.
Labor and conservatives were also important for swine’s comments.
Scottish labor deputy leader Jackie Bailey said that the SNP had “lost its path and ran out of thoughts.
He said: “John cannot end his own passion with swine division, and today he confirmed that he will place Scots in second place to please his party.
“From crisis in our NHS to violence in our schools, SNP has left every institution weak in Scotland.”
Scottish Conservative Deputy Leader Rachel Hamilton said that people were “sick and tired” with swine’s “passion” with breaking Britain.
He said: “In order to silence the internal critics of his weak leadership, he has thrown some more red meat to the nationalists, on which they all agree, freedom.”
This is a very big moment, as John Swine is installing a very high bar for a second referendum.
The pole suggests that the SNP is currently decreasing with a lump sum majority with the 2026 election. In fact, losing seats (while the largest party is remaining) is more likely on current trends.
So why is John Swine doing this? Well, the idea of freedom is currently more popular than SNP. Therefore, it is rational to tie your party as closely as possible.
And he wants to prevent the pro -freedom Scottish voters from looking at other parties who exit Britain.
However this is a risky strategy. If he falls down by the majority in 2026, it seems that freedom will have to take the back seat for a while.
And, regardless of the result, what if the UK government just says “no”? It is not clear where the first minister will go from there.
