Richardson apologized to Kolman and said: “I love him and I cannot apologize to him”.
When the footage of the incident became public, Kolman described Richardson as a “a human, and a great man”.
He told the athletic: “He has a lot of things going on, many feelings and forces are moving inside him which not only I can understand, but no one can do it.”
After his arrest, the USA Track and Field stated that it was “aware of the reports” but “would not be commenting on the matter”.
Richardson won silver in 100 meters at the Paris Olympics and gold as the USA’s 4×100 meter relay team.
It is also due to the protection of its 100m and 4×100 meter relay title at the World Athletics Championship in Tokyo, which begins on 13 September.
