Can this be the first time in history triggers a social media spat nuclear growth?
President Donald Trump is angry with the positions of former Russian President Dimitri Medvedev, saying he has ordered two nuclear submarines to get close to Russia.
So, how will Moscow answer? Are we on the way to an atomic deadlock between the US and Russia? An Internet-Iron version of the 1962 Cuban missile crisis?
I suspect, looking at the initial response in Russia.
Russian news outlets have been rejected instead of Trump’s announcement.
Speaking to Moscowski Comsomolats newspaper, a military commentator concluded that Trump was “throwing an angry tantrum”.
A retired Lieutenant-General told the comments that the US President’s submarines were “meaningless. It is how he gets his kick”.
“I’m sure Trump had not really given any order [about submarines]”A Russian safety specialist suggested the same paper.
The Commerce has also mentioned that in 2017, Trump said that he had a warning for North Korea to remove two nuclear submarines in the Korean Peninsula.
Nevertheless, later, Trump held a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
So, bizarrely, Donald Trump’s latest submarine perpetuation can be a precursor for a US-Russia Summit?
I will not go to that far.
But the reaction of Russian officials has been interesting.
At the time of writing, there is no one.
Not from Kremlin. Not from the Russian Ministry of External Affairs. Nor did the Ministry of Defense.
And I have not seen any announcement about Russian nuclear submarines, which is located close to America.
Which suggests that either Moscow is still studying the situation and working outside is what to do, or Moscow does not feel the need to react.
The Russian press response that I mentioned earlier suggests that it is the latter.
Trump was scattered with Medvedev on social media for several days.
The US President had reduced his 50-day time limit for Russia to end his war in Ukraine for less than two weeks, Medvedev posted that Trump “was playing an ultimatum game with Russia … Each new ultimatum is a danger and a step towards the war”.
Trump replied: “Tell Medvedev, former Russian President who thinks he is still in power, to be careful what he says. He is entering a very dangerous area.”
The next post of Medvedev referred to the automatic nuclear retaliation system “Dead Hand” developed in the Soviet Union.
Apparently, it did not go down well with the head of the White House.
When he was the President of Russia, between 2008 and 2012, Medvedev was seen as a relatively liberal person.
“Freedom is better than freedom without any freedom” he was famous.
But it has increased rapidly. Since the full -scale invasion of Russia in Ukraine, he has received a reputation for bombing, Western social media posts. Most of them have not paid attention to anyone, as they are not seen as the voice of the Kremlin.
Suddenly he was seen: by the President of the United States.
And just did not pay attention. He is correct under Trump’s skin.
It is one thing to dislike social media posts. we’ve all been there.
But to dislike it, you feel like an overcast to deploy nuclear submarines.
So why has Trump done this?
Trump has his own explanation from his interview with Newsmax: “Medvedev said that some things that are very bad, are talking about atoms. When you mention the word atomic, my eyes throw light light and I say we say better, because it is a final danger.”
But Medvedev has been accused of nuclear sabre-dana through social media for a long time. This is not new.
It is clear that Trump recently took the posts of Medvedev very personally, and reacted accordingly.
Can there be a strategy in sports too? Unphetuality seems to be a large part of Trump’s way of functioning, in business and in politics; Taking unexpected decisions that can overcome rivals and opponents before or during conversation.
For example, when ending war in Ukraine.
The deployment of surprise submarines may fall well into that category.
