New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, visiting Guwahati on Wednesday, slammed CM Himanta Biswas Sarma, accused him of acting like a king and said that he would end in jail.Speaking at a party event in Chagaon on a day -long visit to the state to activate party employees before the 2026 elections, he said, “He think he is a ‘secret’, but he will not remain in power for a long time. He will end in jail – not because the Congress wants it, but because the people of Assam will send him there for corruption. ,He added, “People of Assam know the truth … elections will be held soon, and Congress will sweep those elections. We have formed a new team here … We have started work, and the people of Assam will see the results soon.”The Congress leader accused the BJP of trying to manipulate elections through voter list changes. Referring to the Maharashtra assembly elections, he said, “BJP won by cheating in Maharashtra using voter list amendments. They are trying the same in Bihar.”He said that today the fight in India was between two ideologies-“RSS hatred and violence versus Congress truth and non-violence.”Rahul also claimed that “now there are two Hindustan – one of some billionaires who host grand weddings, and other common people who are the burden of taxes.” Earlier in the day, Rahul and Kharge arrived at the Guwahati Airport, where they were welcomed by Assam Congress President Gaurav Gogoi and traditional Assamese ‘Gamos’ along with other senior leaders. Rahul also greeted Bodo dancers performing at the airport. The two leaders started their day with a closed door meeting with the party’s state unit, including MPs, MLAs, PCC office-marriages and leaders at the ground level. He also interacted with members of tribal communities.It marks the first visit of Congress leaders to Assam since Gaurav Gogoi was appointed as the state party president.
