First on Fox: A first-house Republican and military veteran bid for Sen Sen. After Thom Tilis’s northern Carolina Senate seat, the GOP MP announced that he would not run again for the election, a Congress source told Fox News Digital.

This comes when President Donald Trump promised to find a primary challenge for Tilis on the senator’s decision to vote “not” on a major procedural obstacle of commander-in-chief’s “Big, Beautiful Bill”.

Harigan was selected to replace Patrick McHeenry, RNC, Chairman of the former House Financial Services Committee.
He is one of the first people to express interest in Tilis seat in a crowded Republican primary race in a crowded Republican primary race before the 2026 midnight.
Rape Tim Moore, RNC, another first-Term House Republican, is also considering a bid for the Tilis Senate seat, which was told by a source familiar with his plans to Fox News Digital.
Moore is a former speaker of North Carolina State House of Representatives.

“As many of my colleagues have seen compared to the previous year, and have also joked many times, I am not really excited about running for another term. Tilis said that she had objected to the reduction in bill spending to target Medicid, arguing that she would be harmful to rural communities and hospitals in Northern Carolina.

The Senate voted on 51–49 to start a debate on the law late on Saturday night. Tilis and Sen Rand Paul, R-K., “No” were only two Republicans.
Trump posted on Saturday, “Many people want to run into primary against ‘Senator Thom’ Tilis. I will meet him in the coming weeks, looking for someone who will represent the great people of North Carolina properly and therefore, the United States. Thank you for your attention!”
