Opposition parties in Telangana on Thursday welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision, which was setting a three -month time limit to State Assembly Speaker G Prasad Kumar, which decided to disqualify the 10 defects Bharat President Committee (BRS) MLAs in Congress in 2024 and demanded an immediate decision in this regard.
Meanwhile, the speaker told reporters that he would take a decision only after studying the Supreme Court’s decision in detail. He said, “I have already issued notices to the said MLAs (who convicted the Congress) demanding their clarification,” he said.
BRS Executive Chairman KT Ram Rao said in a statement that the speaker should respect the Supreme Court’s decision and disqualify defective MLAs immediately. He said that Rahul Gandhi, who often speaks about constitutional values, should follow his words about faults, should ask defective MLAs to resign on moral grounds.
“There is no need for further inquiries. The speaker should immediately disqualify MLAs, pave the way for by-elections in 10 constituencies. The BRS cadre is ready to fight and win these elections. Finally, truth and righteousness have become strong,” KTR said.
KTR, using the position of the speaker, criticized the Congress for encouraging “immoral and constitutional anti -faults” of “immoral and constitutional antibodies”, stating that the Supreme Court’s verdict was “slapping on face” for such practices.
BRS legalist KP Vivekananda, who was one of the petitioners who questioned the defection in the Supreme Court, said, although the speaker has been given three months to take a decision, they should not wait until then. “They should immediately disqualify the culprits to maintain democracy,” said Vivekananda.
Another petitioner in the assembly and BJP floor leader Aleti Maheshwar Reddy said that the speaker should implement the Supreme Court’s decision in letter and spirit and should not dodge disqualification on technical grounds. He said, “It is not good in the spirit of democracy that the MLAs selected in a party will blame another party and run away on technical grounds. The Supreme Court’s decision is an eye opening for all the culprits,” he said.
Telangana BJP President N Ramchandra Rao also welcomed the Supreme Court’s directive that the speaker should take a decision on disqualification petitions within three months. “This is a positive development. The BRS has no right to talk about the blame, as, also, defeated the MLAs in the past,” Rao said.
Government whip Audi Srinivas said that the Congress will respect the Supreme Court’s decision. He said, “The Apex Court has refused to disqualify the MLAs going to the Congress, but left the decision to the Speaker. Finally, the speaker will take a decision,” he said.
He said that the BRS, which ruled the state for about 10 years, reduced democracy by wooing MLAs, MPs, ZPTC and MPTC members in his bottom. “Now they are dreaming that the government will fall if they will file a disqualification petition against the legislators abandoned due to disillusionment with the policies of the party. Even though the right to decide disqualification with the speaker, the BRS leaders are making a big disturbance,” Srinivas said.
State Congress Committee spokesperson and MP CH Kiran Kumar Reddy said that the chairman will decide on the disqualification of MLAs. “Even though there are by-elections for 10 assembly seats, the Congress can win them down,” he said.
