In this season, we have seen one thing in many sports so far how teams press the pitch.
If we take the Manchester City vs. Sprows Game as an example, both teams had a winger suppressed by one of the centers. We saw that Anthony Elga of Newcastle United had done the same against Aston Villa last week.
In an example of this week, we could see Tottenham’s Brainon Johnson pressing Ruben Dies.
City’s Rico Lewis shifted the Infield, taken with him with him, and Ryan Cherki widened to take advantage of this place. To ensure that Charki was unable to take the ball independently, Mickey Van de Wayne chased him all the way from the center-back.
For the city, the Oscar Bob pressed the van de Wayne and used Lewis to press the left-back DZ Space to move forward. This meant that the Right-Back Lewis had to cover a lot of distance to get out of wide areas in a similar manner as a van day van.
So what does this mean?
By having wings suppressing central defenders, space can be widespread. In principle it is less dangerous than that of the space opening the space.
But with wide opening in space, a player would usually have to increase the distance to cover to get out with the opposition player with his winger instead of pressing the center-back.
During the season, it will be interesting to see how teams look to attack Flax and which player teams use to protect these wide areas, whether it is a full-peeth like Lewis or Central Defenders such as van de wane.
