Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Sunday expressed concern about the arrest of former Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickramasinghe and called Colombo to “shut down politics of vengeance” and treated his former President with dignity.
In a post on X, Tharoor said that the alleged allegations against Ranil Wickramasinghe were “despised” and expressed concern about the health of the former Sri Lankan President, who were admitted to the hospital shortly after the arrest.
“Concerned about the pre -custody of former Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickramasinghe, his face is accused of trivial allegations. His health issues have already taken him to the jail hospital. I call the Sri Lankan government – I fully respected that he works with his former President and his former President.
Earlier, senior Sri Lankan journalist K Venkat Narayan described the arrest of the former Sri Lankan President as “ridiculous”. He also suggested that if necessary, India can provide medical support to a 76 -year -old leader.
Talking to Annie, Narayan said, “I think it is very ridiculous, because as he said that before he was taken inside, he said, he said, Hello, I have never done anything for myself. I only worked for Sri Lanka. And you know the fact that they are arresting me what kind of administration Anura (President Anura Kumara Dishek) is advancing at this time.
Ranil Women’s Singe was arrested on Friday on allegations of misuse of the state fund, as reported by Noswire Lanka.
According to Newswire, his arrest is associated with allegations of using state funds to cover expenses for a private visit to London, where he attended a university graduate ceremony.
It was further stated that investigators claim the journey, which was part of a broad foreign tour, not an official engagement, but was funded with government money.
The six -time Prime Minister, Ranil Walemsinghe, took over in July 2022 after the removal of Gatebaya Rajapaksa as the interim president of Sri Lanka. He lost the presidential election in September 2024 to Anua Kumara Dissanayake, the leader of the power of the national people.
