Police say three people were killed and 10 others were injured on Monday morning in a mass shooting in Grace Ferry neighborhood of Philadelphia.
Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel said that shooting took place on 1500 blocks of South 27th Street just before 1 pm
Police said nine victims were taken to Pen Pentiurian Medical Center and three others were taken to the Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia. An additional victim went to the hospital in the pavilion premises of Pennsylvania. Bethel said that at least eight victims were taken by the police.
Bethel said that two of the injured shooting victims were teenagers and both were expected to survive.
Bethel said that the authorities had already responded to the same block late Saturday night in the beginning of Sunday. The police arrested during that earlier incident and continued to monitor the area throughout the weekend. The authorities returned on Sunday after receiving loud music reports. Responding to a separate incident nearby, the authorities heard the sound of bullets and returned to the block.
Bethel said that he believes that there were about 40 people who were present at the time of shooting. He said that bullets could be exchanged there and dozens of shell casing were recovered from the scene.
Police said that a person was taken into custody with a weapon, although his role in shooting is not clear.
The officials were monitoring the first block over the weekend after responding to the pre -disturbances and loud arrests related to music and meetings. The police were sent to a nearby priority call when they listened to the bullets on their return.
Bethel described the incident as part of a violent fourth part of the July weekend in the city, with six housewives and several firing.
