Nearly eight decades after Burma disappeared in World War II aircraft accident, the remains of a Pennsylvania Airman have been identified, paving the way for a long -awaited burial of the hero in the Arlington National Cemetery.
In the summer of 1943, 27 -year -old Philadelphia, Air Force of US Army 1 Lt Henry J. Carlin, a B -25C “Michel”, was one of the six crew members riding on a bombary, who went down during a raid at a low height in Meekatila, Burma.
Carlin’s remains and three other people on the board were not recovered after the war, and were declared missing in action.

According to the report, members of the other two living crew were captured by Japanese forces. It is not clear that they return home.
The remains of four heroes were buried in a normal grave near Kunpobin, Burma, without recognition, and later recovered by the US tomb registration service in 1947.
The witnesses only described them as a “American accident”, complicating the identity process.

WWII Hero’s special memento comes home for his family after 80 years.
The Defense Department listed bodies listed as “unknown” in Honolulu’s National Memorial Cemetery in 2022 as “unknown”, after the Defense Department approved the apathy request of the Defense Department POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA).
To identify the remains of Carlin, DPAA scientists used dental, anthropological and radio isotope analysis. The medical examiner system of the armed forces also used mitochondrial DNA analysis to create a positive ID, which was confirmed on 16 April.
To shut down a mystery that spreads generations, the remains of Carlin will be buried in the Arlington National cemetery in May 2026.

Jewish war hero in Italy changes the right headstone after 80 years
Carlin is named on the missing walls in Manila American Cemetery and Memorial, which is an American War Memorial Commission’s site in the Philippines, as well as missing from WWII, according to DPAA. A rosett will be placed next to his name to indicate that it has been accounted for.

Carlin served as a navigator and was a member of the 22nd Bombardment Squadron (Medium), 341st Bombardment Group (Medium), 10th Air Force.
