“Hey, Y’All, my sons and I took a heartfelt decision on Thursday, 31 July, the last day of service for Lady & Sons and Chicken Box,” Din’s statement said.
“Thanks to all the great memories and for your loyalty in the last 36 years,” he said. “We have endless love and gratitude for every customer that has passed through our doors.”
Deen said that four of his restaurants would be open outside Sawan. They are located in Nashville and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee; Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; And Branson, Missouri.
Deen said that on Friday, he and his son will visit Branson’s establishment on 8 August, and said that the family is “excited to go to these restaurants regularly.”
“Sawan will always be our home, and we will always be here to support our amazing community,” he said in the statement.
Deen was divorced and almost broke when she moved to Savanna with her boys in 1989 and started a catering business called The Bag Lady. A few years later, he opened his first restaurant at a local best western hotel, then in 1996 launched Lady & Sons in the city of Savannah.
The restaurant soon had lines out of the door and served about 1,100 dinner per day at a height of Din’s popularity. A USA Today Food critic honored Lady & Sons with “Meal of the Year” in 1999.
