Police have said that a one -year -old girl died after being taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Hampshire and Isle of White Constabulary said it was called on BST at 11:34 on Friday and attended a address on a dairy crest drive in Newport on the Isle of White.
The child died in the hospital on Sunday afternoon, the force confirmed.
A 31 -year -old man and a 27 -year -old woman, both from Newport, were first arrested on suspicion of serious physical damage. Both have been pending further inquiries on conditional bail till 1 November.
Inspector Oli Greenhowway said it was an “incredibly tragic situation” and urged people to not speculate online about what happened.
“We are continuing to completely interrogate the circumstances around the incident and how the child got injured,” he said.
