New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday defended the government’s proposed Constitutional Amendment Bill and dismissed speculation about the resignation of former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar.Speaking in a special interview with news agency Annie, Shah rested the claims of political undercurrents behind the move. The Union Home Minister said, “Dhankhar ji was sitting in a constitutional post and during his tenure, he did a good job according to the Constitution. He has resigned due to his personal health problem. One should not try to pull it too much and find something,” said the Union Home Minister.Dhankhar resigned as VP on July 21, citing health reasons.
Constitutional amendment bill
Speaking on the Constitution (one hundred and thirty -thirty amendments) Bills, which is mandatory to remove Prime Ministers, Chief Ministers and other ministers, if he went to jail for serious crimes, Shah expressed confidence that Parliament would refund this measure.“I am sure it will be passed. There will be many people in the Congress party and in the opposition who will support morality and maintain moral grounds,” he said.Shah opposed opposing only reforms to keep his leaders safe. He said, “Even today, they are trying to easily form a government from jail if they ever go to jail. The jail will be made CM House, PM House and DGP, Chief Secretary, Cabinet Secretary or Home Secretary.”The Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, introduced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the Lok Sabha during the monsoon session proposes to remove any Union or Minister of State, including the Chief Minister or Chief Minister, if he is arrested and detained for at least 30 days related to corruption or serious criminal offenses.
Target Rahul Gandhi
The Home Minister also targeted Rahul Gandhi, attacked his “Voter Adhikar Yatra” in Bihar. “There is a big difference between the management of a program and communicating with the public,” he said.He attacked Gandhi on his previous works. “What was the rationale for Rahul Gandhi to tear Lalu Yadav to save the ordinance brought by Manmohan Singh? If there was morality that day, is it not today because you have lost three consecutive elections?”
Parliament on security
Shah also defended the deployment of CISF inside Parliament, rejecting opposition criticism. “Marshals enter the House only when the speaker orders them. The change happened after a major incident when some leftist people sprayed inside the Parliament … they need to shed (protest) and they want to create confusion among the public. After losing three elections, the level of frustration has lost general knowledge,” he said.On August 5, during the morning session of the Rajya Sabha, Congress and other opposition parties created a ruckus, alleging that CISF personnel were deployed in the House last week. The Speaker and the government strongly denied this, clarifying that the workers were from parliamentary security services.
