The nest is located at the highest point of the island of the British Columbia, a stunning off-grid retreat that balances stability with bold architecture.
Designed by Vancouver-based Daria Sheena Studio, the prefabricated cabin seems as if a modern sculpture is dropped in the middle of a moss-wave forest. But do not let your smooth lines be foolish. The structure runs completely from the grid and was installed in just two days of the truck, barge and helicopter arriving.

How an initial sketch inspires Nest’s reputed design
During the initial design discussions, Daria Sheena skimped a thick sketch of two rotated cuboid versions, thinking that it did not develop perfectly. But his customer, Sean Sikorski and Chad Andre, immediately stopped at him, which agreed to his bold simplicity. Their reaction defined the nest – two interlocked geometric shapes, rotated and stacks like modern building blocks, which are out of wood.
To conform to off-grind design for the rugged region of Kates Island
The nest was carefully designed for the rugged region of the island. Due to no access to the road, each construction decision was responsible for difficult logistics. In collaboration with the BC Passive House, the components were prepared for accurate weight and dimensions.
Once on the site, a helicopter took him to a construction place like a life -shaped puzzle, coming together and coming with the Midyer. Inside, the three -storey structure opens with a minimal design. The exposed wood, green marmolium floors and large sliding doors keep the location connected to nature. The cabin consists of a living area, an open-concept first floor with a kitchen and bathroom, while the upper-level house has comfortable bedrooms.

Everything about the nest speaks for sustainable life. Solar panels power the house. A rainwater collection and filtration system supply drinking water. Even there is a terrible toilet to handle the waste. Its foundation reduces environmental effects by reducing the requirement of concrete, and its western red cedar will naturally be of age in the forest environment.

Why the Nest of-grid retreat remains up to its name
The name Nest was chosen for the spirit of shelter, intimacy and related, which directs both architecture and experience. Instead of a huge footprint, the design center around the circular movement, a deep connection to the thoughtful flow and place. Inside, the expander glass frame moss covered with moss and broad view of the hove sound, realizing that the entire island is yours.
