Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi assured strict action against the accused, including a ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) corporator
The Odisha Administrative Service Association (OAS) on Tuesday postponed the collective holiday after Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday assured strict action against those involved in the attack on Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation Additional Commissioner Ratnakar Sahu.
A group of men, including the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party’s BJP corporator Jeevan Raut, attacked Sahu in their office during a grievance redressal meeting on Monday. Maji met OAS members late Monday night and said that the accused would be punished under the law, regardless of their influence.
Sahu said that Rout accused him of insulting BJP leader Jagannath Pradhan during a telephonic conversation. Sahu said in his complaint, “Despite my repeated arguments, he continued the physical attack, causing serious injuries …. He said that his employees and officials at the scene stopped his kidnapping.
Root and two others have been arrested and accused of attempt to murder. On Monday, the OAS announced that all its officials would go on a large scale from Tuesday to oppose the attack on Sahu. “The incident is not a separate … A story has been created for the last one year to humiliate government servants and even resort to physical threats, physical attacks and mental anguish. … represents a serious threat to the safety and dignity of officers across the state … An attack on a senior officer on a senior officer, while an attack on duty.”
Opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Congress called evidence of the attack of “Jungle Raj” under the BJP. In a post on X, the Congress shared a video of the attack. BJD chief Naveen Patnaik urged Maji to take immediate and exemplary action against those involved in the attack. Patnaik said that no action was taken when an officer of a former governor attacked an officer.
BJP leader Aparajita Sarani condemned the attack, saying that the BJP does not support or support such acts. He demanded strict action against the culprits and called for disciplinary measures against BJP members.
