New York Times reporter Jeffrey C. Mess claimed that Zoharan Mamdani, the closest to New York city, gets for socialism, an article published on Saturday has “believing people more equally”.
Mess argued Mamdani opponents have labeled “abusive” as “socialist” and a “democratic socialist”, despite the fact that Mamdani is a member of the US National Democratic Socialists (DSA) and its local NYC chapter.
The reporter said, “The closest for socialism, Mr. Mamdani believes in treating people more equally.”

Mamdani’s rival, former village Andrew Kuomo, DN.Y., stated last week that “the people of New York City are not socialists,” and New Yorker will not echo with the message of self-assertive Democratic Socialist.
“Neither, in fact, is Mr. Mamdani,” said Mess. “He is a democratic socialist, which means that his beliefs are similar to socialists, but not at all.”
The Times reporter said that last week Mayor Hopful said that his platform is different from both local and national DSA platforms.
Mayis broke the differences between socialism and democratic socialism, and claimed that Mamdani planned to pay for her proposals, such as providing free busing and childcare in NYC through increasing taxes, “Nothing is close to socialist -like acquisition of private companies.”

Although Mess made a case that Mamdani is not socialist – and that democratic socialism is not the same as socialism – he noticed that NYC DSA describes itself as a branch of the national group, which calls itself the “largest socialist organization” in the country, and that the Mayor is a member of both nominees.
Mess also reported that Mamdani received the support of New York DSA for the mayor, and he was part of the DSA’s eight -member “Socialist in Office” group during his time in the New York State Legislature.
Nevertheless, the previous comments of Mamdani have promoted the claims of his opponents. In 2021, Mammadani participated in a young Democratic Socialist from America, where he urged the attendees not to compromise on goals such as “seizing the means of production”.
“Right now, if we are talking about cancellation of student loans, if we are talking about Medicare for all, you know, these are issues that are the basis of popular support in this country,” he said in a video at the conference. “But then there are other issues that we strongly believe, whether it is BDS or whether it is the ultimate goal of seizing the means of production, where we do not have the same level support in this moment.”
