Nissan is missing more than 480,000 vehicles in the US and Canada as the engine may lose power when using the engine due to manufacturing defects.
In a memorial notice Posted Along with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Nissan stated that it had identified impact failures in some vehicles. Nissan is missing 443,899 vehicles in the US, showing the notice. In Canada, 37,837 are affected, a Nissan spokesperson told Associated Press.
Recall 3-cylinder 1.5L or 4-cylinder 2.0L variable compression affects some of the following models with turbo engine:
- 2019-2020 Altima
- 2019-2022 Infiniti QX50
- 2021-2024 evil
- 2022 Infiniti QX55
The recalled models may have manufacturing defects in engine bearings that can cause engine failure according to NHTSA.
Because bearing failures are usually slowly over time, drivers may have an advance warning of engine problem. The signals include “unusual noise from the engine compartment, rough running, malfunction indicator lights (MIL) and a warning message in the instrument cluster,” the recall notice states.
Dealer remedy
To fix the problem, “Dealer will inspect the engine oil pan for metal debris, and if necessary, according to the recall notice, repair or replace the engine.”
In cases where no engine debris is detected during inspection, for vehicles with 3-cylinder 1.5L VC-turbo engines, dealer oil pan gaskets, will replace the engine oil and rep notch the engine control module. For vehicles with 4-cylinder 2.0L VC-turbo engines, the dealer will replace the engine oil.
