The National Medical Commission has again issued a public notice again, threatening to take action against medical colleges that do not stirring the intern and resident doctors. Due to no evidence of any action taken after similar dangers in 2023 and 2024, it remains to be seen whether the change in the chairman of the Commission takes action this time.Three months ago, NMC threatened to impose Rs 50,000 as a fine on medical colleges, which saves several crores every year by not paying the stipend. The rules of NMC states that all medical colleges have to pay intern and resident doctors are equal to the payment of medical colleges of the state government.Three days before the latest public notice on 11 July, NMC issued another notice, transferring the responsibility of addressing the complaints of medical students in medical colleges, universities and directorates of the concerned states. Nevertheless, the Commission is now threatening to take action, including implementing financial penalty, curriculum recognition and withdrawal of suspension of entry.The latest notice reminded the medical colleges that, keeping in mind the Supreme Court’s order of April 29, all private and understood universities should disclose detailed information about tuition fees, hostel charges, precautions and all diverse charges in the pre-counseling phase. Citing another order of the Supreme Court in 2022 and the own rules of the Commission, it was said that the payment of stipend was mandatory.NMC threatened that non-non-approval would draw action under medical institutions, assessment and rating regulations, 2023, maintenance of standards of medical education regulations, 2023 and post graduate medical education regulation, 2023. It has been added that these measures have worked for different types of fees as well as different types of fees to ensure the payment of the stypend. Country”.In April 2023, NMC conducted a survey among the students of the Medical College, which they were being paid. An RTI Query for NMC revealed that the survey showed that more than 60 colleges were not paying the stipend, while about 50 per month was paying less than Rs 5,000 per month. In August 2023, NMC issued a “advice” to all colleges about the payment of stipend. The Supreme Court reduced the non-payment of stipend on NMC, in November 2024, the Commission issued notices to 198 medical colleges to fail to submit the stipend payment data.NMC has written to colleges threatening “strict action” on August 2023, November 2024 and now 11 July 2025. Nevertheless, there is no record of any action against any college so far for the non-payment of stipend.
